Trying to remember

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

EJ was four years old.  The family was driving to a conference an hour away.  EJ needed to go to the bathroom, again.  This continued through the weekend – an essential potty break every hour.  And the Shepherd and I KNEW.  Our little girl has diabetes.

We were spared going through ICU.  EJ never hit the diabetic coma.  We simply moved into a life of blood tests, shots, diet control, and fear.  I feared she would slip into the diabetic coma in her sleep and I would not know it.

Fear gnawed at me.  Tension was building.  I might not be able to take care of  my little girl.

Finally, I had to get away.  I had to spend time with God.  I had to find resolution to my fear.

I went to hear God.  I drove around.  I parked and waited.  I told God what I thought – at least in part.  I started to flip through Scripture.  And I heard God.  I found this Psalm.

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

“He who watches over you will not slumber”.  Hope to cling to.  I can sleep while God watches over my little girl.
