Gehenna – the landfill with everlasting fires. It is a place of waste. Where things without purpose are placed. It is the description Jesus uses for hell.
Without purpose. The landfill has many, many objects. Put together, the items are without distinction, they are non-descript, they are useless.
This has been an unusual time in my life, and my walk with God. In my time of doubting God and being angry, I have been surrounded with people who enjoy the idea of hell. They like the idea as a deterrent for the non-believer. Or they like the idea to motivate people to their way of thinking.
What I have noticed within myself is how lacking of motivation the idea of hell is. If I can deny the presence of God, why would I think hell is relevant? If I can reject the creator, why would I give much thought to His adversary?
Love is appealing. And purpose is very appealing.
