Finally, the school year is complete. The girls are excited to have a break from school work. It makes me a bit nervous. What happens when the girls get bored?
My tendency is to lay out a schedule with rules and requirements — time to be up, tasks to complete with a checklist. I want that done before there are any privileges — chores complete, studies done, etc.
Why is it so far down on my list for my children to get together with friends, read, watch movies, and just play as a teen should play? I suppose it is the culture in which we live where value is determined by what is done — what did you get done? And I think it is important for children to learn responsibility and service AND how to relax. It is a balancing act.
I think we should figure out the WORK thing….our kids are busy doing nothing!
