Aligning pieces

Tonight I had coffee with Judy.  She has been one of the key figures in the Divorce Care ministry.

Judy and her ex-husband went to Bible college and then poured themselves into serving God through the local church.  They went to seminary and took on church planting.  The ministries they had were difficult.  And about 2 years ago, Judy’s husband decided he had  had enough.  Enough of mean churches… and enough of being married.  Judy is now living with her parents trying to figure out raising three near  teens.

Judy spent most of her time telling me how hard this congregation is.  She understands how dogmatic the congregation is — and how significant it will be.  She wants to encourage the Derrick and me.  She wants to  see this church move out of its dogmatic history and embrace a future of grace.

What stands out most in talking to Judy is how hard she views the job to be.  And if I heard Judy correctly, she doesn’t see T as an asset, but  a detriment.  She does not want to be at this congregation, but feels called to be there.  Judy and I do not just click, but something resonates.

Such a time as this.
