A “godly” argument

I am sitting in a coffee shop listening.  Two men are getting agitated with one anther as they discuss the implications and understanding of God’ law.  “If we cannot understand, why try?”

Voices rise.  “I am in agreement with you, but obviously God…”

“In other words, I am not saying…”

The collective is not always…

“Right, but…”

“Here’s the point, are you comparing what you have been taught, or are you saying the word is my foundation?”

Are we so different today from the Saducees and Pharisees of Jeusus’ day?  All of this debate of spiritual things.  Both men are going to walk away a bit angry.  Both men know he is right”.  Nothing was done or said that facilitates the other walking more closely to God or each other.  Instead, each man feels more compelled in his own argument having never heard the other.  It is a contest of who is more clever and better skilled in debate.  What is the purpose?

that is why I love your Shepherd. We can discuss things of theology and disagree on some points but in the end we know that We both love God and He loves us, even with our faults and less than perfect understanding. and in the end we still love each other and walk away not only friends but happy. ( I think you are pretty great too)

      :)

Flexing thought muscles is fun. What I was listening to today was very arrogant. “I have all of the answers. I don’t even need to listen to you because I have the answers already.” I like a good pondering. But the older I get, the more I realize I don’t know or understand.
