Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.
We are looking at the Lord’s prayer in Sunday school. The primary thought by the students (lifetime adult believers) has been criticism of a prayer said by rote. There is a questioning of how valuable it can be. It sounds like a noble argument.
My argument is this. I could go to any congregation in the world and find believers who know this same prayer. Despite different backgrounds, heritages, politics, etc., we can pray as one Body to one God. I believe this is rich and valuable. Perhaps Jesus was onto something good when he taught us to pray like this.
