What was God thinking?

Ever wonder what God is doing?  Why He chooses the methodology He chooses?

I look at the devastation in Joplin, MO after a tornado went through.  The death toll is over 100 people.  The injuries are awful.  The financial burden won’t be understood for years.  What is God doing?  Does He even have a purpose?

People will point to the lives touched by the Churches.  Others will see Christ in their neighbors and point to God’s grace.  These are good things.  But if God is all-powerful, He caused or allowed the tornado in the first place.  Is the devastation going to bring more people to find God than people who will shake their fist at Him?  Is His grace apparent or does tragedy simply draw a line in the sand forcing people to make a decision – for or against God?

When the rumblings of the earth bring devastation, we are reminded how small we are and we need God?  Or do we think of how big God is and what He caused or allowed?
