Troy Aikman

I recently watched a Super Bowl documentary.  Troy Aikman, Super Bowl MVP, recounted the evening just after his first Super bowl.  He had played a great game, followed it up with all of the interviews.  When he was finished he looked around, and nobody was there.

Everybody had left the hotel and gone out to celebrate the win.  He tried calling his teammates, but nobody answered their phone.  Troy describes the moment and says, “Here I was the Superbowl MVP and all alone.”

I have experienced those moments too… okay, not as an MVP.  When I graduated, I gave the speech addressing and challenging my class.  After the commencement, I was wandering around wondering where my family was.   “Key Note Speaker” and all alone.  All of the work to get to the pinnacle, and then life was still ordinary.

I wonder how much of life is lived seeking “that moment”.  Are those moments really worth what we put in to achieve them.  In the end, are we going to still miss the party wondering where everybody is.
